Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
